Regional Occupational Health & Safety Advisor II
Temporary Full Time

PCN: 55031RP2
Reporting to the Regional Manager of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S). The Occupational Health & Safety Regional Advisor II will act as the primary resource in providing Occupational Health and Safety support to Managers, Staff, and OH&S Committees in our region. The OH&S Advisor will support LGH by providing strategic safety advice to enhance our OH&S program and compliance with provincial regulations.
Qualifications:
" Graduation from a recognized post-secondary program in Occupational Health and Safety and/or an undergraduate degree in a related field is required;
" Three to five years of related experience in the development and implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety strategic program is also required;
" Experience working in HealthCare or other sectors;
" Facilitation experience and knowledge of adult learning principles;
" Strong written and verbal communication skills;
" Excellent working knowledge of provincial Health and Safety Regulations and a willingness to keep up with new developments;
" Ability to coach and support committees;
" Desire and ability to work independently and as part of the team;
" Proficiency working with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and other similar software tools;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct;
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Support LGH to facilitate the development and implementation of health and safety related activities;
" Monitor, track and assist in the coordination of all OH&S Committee meetings, workplace inspections and assist in creating schedules;
" Assess and evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards and provide recommendations to eliminate them and ensure that adequate controls are in place;
" Experience/Knowledge in using Incident Reporting Systems e.g. PIERS/Titan;
" Educate staff in hazard recognition & how to complete incident reports in PIERS;
" Help departments in completing hazard/Risk assessments;
" Prepare required documentation and facilitate annual WorkplaceNL PRIME audits;
" Provide advice and assistance to management and staff on OH&S education and Non- Violent Crisis Intervention training;
" Conduct workplace inspections, internal audits, site visits, hazard assessments & incident investigations as needed;
" Carry out weekly safety talks;
" Recommend appropriate procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws and regulations;
" Develop and implement prevention programs aimed at incident reduction and improved employee attendance;
" Provide regular updates to OH&S Manager/RD;
" Conduct OH&S Committee training on an as-needed basis;
" Train staff in Mask Fit testing;
" Travel in the region will be required;
" Other duties as requested by Regional Director Employee Health and Safety or Senior Leadership;
Salary:
" This position is a non-union, non-management position (NUNM), CG-36, $33.54 to $37.43 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.
Hours of Work:
" 75 hours Bi-weekly; variable shifts.
