RESPIRATORY THERAPIST I
Permanent Full Time
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay

The primary purpose of this position is to help cover all of the Respiratory Therapy Services delivered to clients of all ages at the Labrador Health Centre, Happy Valley - Goose Bay, and to outpatients from all surrounding Labrador regions. The position may involve travel to other hospitals/clinics in the Region, and other Regions in the Province, and outside the Province, and to clients' homes, workplace, or school as needed. The Respiratory Therapist utilizes knowledge from clinical expertise to the diagnosis, management, and prevention of all cardio - respiratory disorders and posses an understanding of these cardio-respiratory disorders in all age groups from the neonate to the elderly.

Qualifications:
" Successful completion of High School;
" Graduation from an accredited Program of Respiratory Therapy;
" Must be a registered Respiratory Therapist with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT), which must be maintained and current at all times;
" Proof of registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP);
" Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support Certificate;
" Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support Certificate;
" Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate;
" Must have strong computer skills, and writing skills;
" Must have good communication, and interpersonal skills, and be able to do in-servicing and presentations to staff, and other stakeholders for the Respiratory Therapy Services;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Emergency intubation/extubation airway management of adults, pediatrics, and neonates as life saving measures;
" Initiates and manages non-invasive/invasive ventilatory support via ventilators to adults, pediatrics and neonates to maintain life within the guidelines of departmental policies and procedures;
" Inserts arterial lines for continuous blood pressure monitoring;
" Obtains arterial blood gases/lab work via arterial lines or by arterial puncture, analyzes the results and institutes/modifies the required changes to the patient's ventilatory requirements in consultation with the physician;
" Administering medications to critically ill patients;
" Responds to "high risk" deliveries in which client's respiratory status may be compromised;
" External cardiac massage and interpretation of basic EKG's, cardiac outputs and hemodynamic profiles;
" Performs various respiratory diagnostic tests as required;
" Clinically assesses and evaluates patient response to treatment and modify therapy based on this assessment and evaluation in consultation with the physician;
" Transport critically ill patients, monitors their status and initiates emergency intervention within the scope of practice to maintain patient life;
" Other related duties as required.

Salary:
" CG-34 of the NAPE-HP Salary Scales, $29.65 to $33.03 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:
" 75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Hours of work will follow the flexible work schedule in accordance with Article 19.01(a) of the NAPE-HP Collective Agreement based on 75 hours biweekly (by mutual agreement). Variable shifts may apply.
